Preciosa II

The new red ink turned out to be more successful than I imagined and very intriguing to use because of how it behaves in the water. While in water, it keeps a certain shape until moved and starts slowly incorporating into the water.

Overall, this ink gives me different shapes and hues I can work with. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, it works conceptually given that I’m interpreting my yoni and learning to see myself, specifically that part of my body, as more intrinsically beautiful. Lastly, there is something naturally poetic and deliberate about having to wait a cycle for me to get more ink for more art explorations.

The second thing that became obvious was that I wanted to properly record the makings of these explorations. Some might end up as photographs, but some I think will end up as videos. It is through video where I can capture the subtle and beautiful movements of the elements which focus on the organic fluidity that I want to emphasize about the yoni and the emotional stuff I carry within it.

When I was making the dirt shapes (held on a plastic sheet above a water background), I realized that I was taking some inspiration from my watercolors. Eventually I realized that the plastic sheet I was using was too dirty and scratched, so I decided to add the dirt directly into the water. To my surprise the dirt held its shape and gave the images more dimension.

I’m happy with the elements I’m using and the aesthetic that I’m getting. Since I’m enjoying the whole process, I’ll keep on doing these explorations and will later add light and sound vibrations. On the side, I’m re-reading books about the body and thinking about the concept and message separately so that I don’t overwhelm the mini me that just wants to explore and play.
